Jehoiakim was king of Judah, placed on the throne by Pharaoh Neco (2 Kings 23:34-24:6, Jeremiah 22-26). He was wicked, oppressed the people, and burned Jeremiahs scroll. He died and was buried with dishonor. The name means Yahweh raises up. Jehoiakim represents opposition to Gods word and the consequences of rejecting prophecy. His burning of Jeremiahs scroll showed contempt for divine revelation. He is a negative example of a king.
