An Ansari chief from the Aws tribe. He was one of the two martyrs from the Aws at the Battle of Badr (the other being his father, Khaythamah). He was known for his generosity; he and his father drew lots to see who would go to Badr, and he went and was martyred. The Prophet ﷺ paired him with the Muhajir Umar ibn al-Khattab as brothers in faith.
