Tabitha (also called Dorcas) appears in Acts 9:36-42 as a disciple in Joppa who was full of good works and acts of charity. When she died, the believers sent for Peter, who raised her from the dead. The name means gazelle. Tabitha represents charitable works, the power of prayer, and the miracle of resurrection. Her raising was a sign of Gods power and compassion. She is one of the few women raised from the dead in Scripture.
